Red Kite Learning has been developing e-learning materials for over five years. We strongly believe in the benefits that new technology can bring to learning and are keen to collaborate on new projects.
We create online learning materials and online-courses. Our online course content is managed using moodle (an open source course management system). As an organisation we are involved in delivering Skills For life courses and have used this experience to develop online course material.
We also specialise in developing interactive Skills for Life and Employability resources. Many of these resources are freely available for use on the internet.
The following are examples of exercises created on the LLU+ Interactive Numeracy Web Site http://www.rkl.org.uk/llu:
The body exercise allows a learner to enter information about age, height and weight and leads them through a series of calculations about the body. The exercise is animated to match with the figures the learner has entered.
Numerous drops This template can be configured by a tutor to pose a series of questions and answers from which the learner can select. The questions and answers are presented in droplets as something both unusual and non-threatening to learners with low levels of numeracy.
Spin the Wheel Tutors can enter any set of questions and answers they like for this exercise. The learner selects questions by spinning the wheel, then choosing the appropriate answer. This is a interactive, colourful and non-threatening means of setting basic numeracy exercises for learners.
Chart The chart exercise targets a specific section of the Adult Numeracy Core Curriculum. It allows tutors to teach basic concepts about how graphs and tables of data are related. Again tutors are able to tailor an exercise to their own learners.
Clock The clock exercise allows tutors to set times in both an analogue and digital clocks and asks learners to set them to the same time by interacting with the two clock faces.
Scale Tutors are able to set up exercise by choosing the weights and items to be weighed. Learners then interact with the exercise to learn about using metric and imperial weights and measures.
Tiling is an example of embedded learning. It aims to teach numeracy to learners in the construction industry through a practical exercise in how a builder might tile a room. The exercise is interactive but aims to be as realistic as possible in terms of the calculations used.
Examples of other e-learning materials include:
Skills for Life Worksheets These are a series of web based exercises helping learners with basic reading, writing and numeracy skills.
Interview Assistant takes a job seeker through a series of steps to prepare for a job interview.
CV Wizard Guides a job seeker through the process of creating a CV through a series of steps that allow them control over the information entered.
